Analysis Of The Book Bless Me Ultima - 1630 Words
1. The novel Bless Me Ultima fits the description of ââ¬Å"magical realismâ⬠because in the novel there was various scenarios where there was a blend of realism and fantasy. Magical realism portrays an image that is beyond greater than reality and it is a part of this book because supernatural scenes and magic are involved. ââ¬Å"These fireballs were brujas on their way to their meeting places. There, it was said, they conducted the Black Mass in honor of the devil, and the devil appeared and danced with themâ⬠. It was not just an illusion but was a blend of reality and the supernatural. 2. One archetype that is identifiable throughout the book of Bless Me Ultima is the mother figure Ultima shows towards Antonio. Antonio says, ââ¬Å"I had more time to spend wi th Ultima, and in her company I found a great deal of solace and peaceâ⬠. (223) Antonio basically sees Ultima as a second mother and he feels safe with her and knows that he can trust her. Another archetype in the book that was found was how Antonio felt close to his religion like how he was close to his mother and that also reflects his cultural heritage. Antonio says, ââ¬Å"I turned more and more to praying before the altar of the Virgin, because when I talked to her I felt as if she listened, like my mother listenedâ⬠.
